Two common graves are located between the cemetery chapel and sections 2 and 17. They are marked by a simple plaque in Slovak and Hebrew. This is where the Chevra Kadisha reinterred bodies that had been exhumed from the old cemetery, which was destroyed during construction of the tunnel in 1943/44. According to contemporary witnesses, the bodies were placed into small wooden boxes with the name of the buried person. The exact number of reinterred bodies and a full list of names is not known. A German translation of selected tombstones from the old cemetery has been preserved. Only the rabbinical section surrounding the grave of the Chatam Sofer, with 22 graves has been kept intact. This remaining part of the old cemetery is today part of the Chatam Sofer Memorial.
